1. Who We Are
RentMinder ("RentMinder," "we," "us") operates rentminder.ca, a rental transparency platform serving Prince Edward Island, Canada. We are subject to Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy law.
2. Information We Collect
Account information: name, email address, password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never see your actual password), and role (tenant or landlord).
Property data: rental addresses, rent amounts, and unit details you submit or that are sourced from publicly available Prince Edward Island government registries and freedom of information requests.
Reviews and submissions: review text, ratings, move-in documentation, and dispute form data you provide.
Payment information: processed by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers.
Usage data: pages visited, search terms, and browser type, collected via standard server logs.
3. How We Use Your Information
To operate the platform and provide services you request.
To verify landlord accounts and link property ownership.
To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, subscription receipts). We do not send marketing email without your opt-in consent.
To improve the platform using aggregated, anonymized analytics.
4. Public vs. Private Information
Property addresses, rent history, landlord names, and tenant reviews are publicly visible — this is the platform's core purpose.
Reviews submitted as "Anonymous" display as "Verified Anonymous Tenant." Your identity is not disclosed.
Move-in documentation and dispute form data are private and visible only to you.
5. Disclosure to Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information.
We use Supabase (database hosting, authentication) and Stripe (payments). Both maintain their own privacy policies and security certifications.
We may disclose information when required by law or court order.
6. Data Retention
Account data is retained while your account is active. You may request deletion at any time by emailing privacy@rentminder.ca. Public property data sourced from government registries may be retained independently of account deletion.
7. Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. We use Supabase Row Level Security (RLS) to ensure users can only access their own private data.
8. Your Rights (PIPEDA)
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to correct inaccurate data, and to withdraw consent (subject to legal or contractual restrictions).

9. Cookies
We use session cookies for authentication only. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
10. Changes
We will notify registered users of material changes to this policy by email. Continued use after notice constitutes acceptance.
